Success Stories

We are always thrilled when one of our foster rabbits finds their forever home. Scroll down through our success stories to read about some of our very grateful bunnies.

Baxter

Adoption date: 4/30/2008

Hi Dawn,

I thought I'd send you a quick note to tell you that Baxter is doing great! He's quite a character and is having a ball rearranging my daughter's playroom. He likes to jump up to the 2nd level of her doll house and move
the doll furniture around. He also reaches up to steal notebooks and folders off of her table. (I feel a "my rabbit ate my homework" excuse may be in her future if we're not careful). He's eating well and is starting to let us pet him more frequently.

Our Basset Hound has been terrified of him since Baxter whacked him in the nose and the English Bulldog couldn't care less. The cat still doesn't know he's here.

Thank you for educating us about binkies. We have seen lots of them, but would have been worried if we had not have been told they were a good thing!

Thanks again,
Jill

Babette - Update 02/23/08

Adoption date: 3/1/2008

We're so happy for Babette. She found another companion 7 days losing her kit, Babs. Please check back for updates on Babette and Hamilton, her new husbun!

Julia - Update September 2005

Adoption date: 2/17/2008

Yay for Julia, who was adopted after nearly 6 years in foster care as a companion for Calvin, who lost his mate. Please check back for updates on the happy couple :)

Kylie

Adoption date: 12/8/2007

We decided to keep Kylie's adoption name because it fits her well. Since she came home with us last December, she has grown a little longer and now weighs about five pounds.

She loves to sit for head strokes for an hour at a time and binkies all over the house during her run time. Our relatives all know to ship us their used phone books for her to shred. We planted a container garden just for her on the back porch this spring, which includes parsley, basil, dill,
cilantro, kale and strawberries.

Kylie has a sparkling personality and has been an absolute joy to include in our household. She likes to bring us toys when we pet her and plays with our smaller cats. Here is a picture of her crawling
around under the living room furniture, one of her favorite activities.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make Kylie's rescue, fostering and adoption possible!"

Paul

Adoption date: 10/28/2007

Things are going wonderful with Paul! He is fitting right in with our little family. Paul is soooooo funny! He likes to jump in my dresser and hide under beds
and run up and down the stairs like crazy! He also likes to sleep at the
top of the steps and wait for treats from me after everyone has gone to bed, and he loves to drink my water out of my cup!!
He has been loving the mint that is fresh from our garden and he loooooves
celery as well. The kids absolutely adore him. Devin slept downstairs by his cage the first few nights so he wouldn't be lonely!! The other night we let him stay out and he kept jumping on my bed and hopping across us as we slept!!

Ringo

Adoption date: 10/4/2007

Here is a picture of Ringo, the Jersey Wooley I adopted, enjoying his run time in his room!
He is such a wonderful rabbit and does great with his haircuts! He loves to sit on my and my husbands laps while we watch a movie, and to be pet.

Hobbs

Adoption date: 9/1/2007

I just thought I would update you on the status of Hobbs. We actually decided to rename him, and now his name is Moses, but we usually refer to him as Moe. He is an absolute sweetheart, and loves nothing more
than to lie on the floor and be petted. He gives lots of bunny kisses if you have skin exposed.

My roommates and I are all very surprised as
to how well he has adjusted and we all love him very much! He really loves to eat carrots tops, I would say that, and dandelion greens are probably his favorite foods. He has complete run of the apartment and I know that he loves it, sometimes he gets really excited and hops really high and kicks out his legs. Too cute!

Thank you for rescuing Hobbs/Moses, we truly love having him in our family!

Kennedy

Adoption date: 6/27/2007

Kennedy found her new buddy in Duncan, another bunny adopted from IHRS! The happy pair is vying for "cutest couple" awards while they work on their new friendship.

Elise

Adoption date: 6/13/2007

From Elise's new family:
We gave her a new name, it's now Zanita. She seems to be adjusting well and is starting to warm up to me. She is still a little defensive of her food and sometimes growls at me when I first put it down. Zanita does not care too much for the puppy yet, she swats and grunts at him when he comes around her. I think she will eventually warm up to him though once he gets out of the puppy stage. Zanita has the run of the upstairs and Bowser has the downstairs. Zanita is such a joy to have around and we love her very much. Thanks so much for all you do with the IHRS and for rescuing Zanita.

Finnigan

Adoption date: 5/29/2007

I just wanted to give you an update on my sweet, yet very independent, Finn. He is doing very well. He is a very smart and inquisitive bunny who likes to hop around and take control. He loves when I change and rearrange his living area. He is a bit shy around strangers but that is okay... so am I. He is not very fond of people but loves to lay in my lap and get his head scratched. Here is a picture of him in my lap!

Grace

Adoption date: 5/25/2007

Grace was in foster care for a long time, waiting for a very special home. Grace is a rather "intense" rabbit and needed someone who could understand her! She was within hours of euthanasia at a local shelter when she came to rescue, so we're thrilled to hear she found her forever home--it was worth the wait!

From her adoptive mom:

Grace is doing great! Of course she's been causing trouble. :) Actually she's having a lot of fun here. She has full run of my room and is working on the whole house. She goes out in a pen every couple of days and loves that. Grace is getting along really well with the dogs too. She chases them and they chase
her. I think the dogs are more afraid of her than she is of them. But anyways, she is doing great and I am SO happy I have her. She makes me and everyone else laugh constantly. So thank you for her!

Annabelle

Adoption date: 5/18/2007

Annabelle was one of the longest residents in IHRS foster care. Found stray with a terrible eye wound caused by being shot, the pellet remains in her head, and Annabelle has suffered years of respiratory problems. Lacking an eye doesn't seem to bother her, though!

Annabelle is one of the sweetest rabbits ever, but was hard to adopt due to her health issues. She outlived one bonded friend in foster care and her foster mom finally couldn't stand to see her living alone any longer. Annabelle was adopted to be Joey's best friend, and now they live happily together, grooming all day. Joey doesn't mind Annabelle's snotty nose!

Gretel

Adoption date: 5/6/2007

Gretel is doing so well in her new home/room. She is so happy...and Emmett and Lucy seem uninterested. Thank you both again for your help through the adoption process, especially with my Shar-Pei concerns.

Murphy

Adoption date: 5/5/2007

Murphy is doing great! He seems to have adapted to his new home well. He is eating his hay, pellets and greens. He is doing great with his litter box as well. Since I am an at home mom, he gets a lot of time of out his cage. He really likes his play time and loves to run around. He is just the cutest little rabbit!

Evangeline

Adoption date: 4/16/2007

Hi,

I just thought I would let you all know that Evangeline is still doing really well. I would like to send some pictures, but my digital camera isn't working well, but I loved the pictures Kristin sent.

We went to Gatlinburg this past week camping in our travel trailor. I couldn't bear to leave her with my housesitter, so I took her with me. She was great. She shared the 4bed bunkhouse with the kids, and had a
lower bunk with a big window. She would look out the window at whatever was going on at the campground, and whenever we were around and it wasn't too hot she played outside in her exercise pen.

She absolutely loves Craisins and she runs up and greets me whenever I come in to feed
her. She can still be a little aggressive when her territory is entered, but I just accept it, and love her all the same. I think she is the cutest bunny I have ever seen, and my kids enjoy her too. Thanks for
everything.

Sarah

Edison

Adoption date: 4/1/2007

Hi Dawn!

I just wanted to write you a quick note thanking you again for matching us with the most perfect rabbit for our family!! Edison's been a member of our family for almost 3 months now and we couldn't be happier. He fits perfectly! He brightens our days in so many ways. He gets so excited in the morning when everyone gets up. As soon as he sees someone come around the corner he runs to the door of his crate. During the day he likes to hang out on the brick hearth of the fireplace or the treadmill. I still can't believe how loveable he is. If you sit on the floor and put your hands in your lap, he'll come over and shove his head under your hand. I also can't believe how well the dogs get
along with him. At first he was pretty timid around them, but now they don't faze him a bit. He'll even let Jack, our Rhodesian Ridgeback, clean his ears. He just makes everyone so happy. The kids love giving him his toys and picking out his greens. I just wanted to let you know that things are still going great with him. We thank you so much!

The Ferebbee Family

Augustus

Adoption date: 3/25/2007

Hi Dawn, I meant to send you an update on Augie sooner, but the time has flown by.

He's been with us 7 weeks now. He is wonderful fun, he loves to come and sit next to us for petting, and is sitting by my feet right now as I type this.

He eats well, plays well, is very very patient and gentle and loving and I swear that if I had the time he would sit next to me all day and let me snuggle him, he loves to be petted.

He took to this house very quickly and has left his little tooth marks on pretty much everything - we are working diligently and patiently to teach him 'no' and he's getting better at choosing to chew on boxes and not window frames!

I attached some pictures so that you can see where he lives - the girls have those chairs permanently by his cage and sit with him every day while he is napping. He loves to lay on the floor with them and look at their books, and he also loves to come and sit between our feet when we are not expecting him! I'm getting used to peeling potatoes with a rabbit sitting on my feet!!!!

The Easter bunny brought him a blue cotton bunny friend, and they are very good pals! Augie throws his 'friend' down the ramp in his cage quite regularly!! It is wonderful to see them laying together at sleep time though, Augie rests his chin on 'blue bunny' to sleep! Adorable!

Thankyou! Augie is a joy, we love having him in our family, and he seems to love being here.

I hope all is going well with your foster bunnies, and your human family, very best wishes

Juliet

Adoption date: 3/20/2007

Hello, just wanted to send a picture of Juliet, who is now Penny (short for Penelope). I've had her for two weeks now and she is doing well, getting more and more willing to venture out of her cage (especially if I'm in the other room!) She's enjoying her play time in the dog's play pen every couple of days, and once I switch bedrooms she'll have a lot more freedom. The dog and cat find her interesting- Midnight the cat likes playing tag with her through the bars of the playpen, and Bichinha the dog enjoys sniffing and licking Penny for about two seconds and then earnestly hunting down a stray piece of hay or rabbit poo to snack on. She runs off with mouthfuls of hay whenever she gets the chance- I think she's having an identity crisis with a new species in the house! Here is a picture off my cell phone of Penny enjoying being petted after she jumped out of her cage and up on my bed. She really is an amazingly sweet rabbit. Thanks for all you guys do!

melanie, bichinha, midnight, and penny

Cassie

Adoption date: 3/17/2007

I wanted to give you an update on Cassie aka Miss Chomps A Lot. She has adapted well. Sometimes it seems like she has been with us for many years. It's hard to believe it has only been 1 month. She finally ventured into the living room. It is her favorite room to be in especially when we are watching tv.

In a month she has managed to chew and dig a hole in my carpet (this one is my fault), chew through John's cell phone charger (his fault) and decided that our bedroom is her favorite room to sneak into (blame it on
the great hiding place under the bed). We now keep all bedroom doors shut.

She still has her attitude. I don't see it going away anytime soon. She does not like to be touched unless she invites you to. At times, she will "tolerate" a petting session that we intiate. This is very short lived. Heaven forbid if I try to brush her. This is a crime punishable by growling and charging the brush. I don't think she realizes she is a rabbit. A grizzly bear comes more to mind.

Even with her digging, chewing and grizzly bear attitude, she it a great addition to our family. I have enclosed some pictures of her.

Thank you,
Lori Sweet

Genevieve

Adoption date: 3/14/2007

Last year we rescued a little rabbit. Even though the little guy, his name is Stuart Little, had a nice home now, he was not happy by himself and sat in a corner most of the time. Dawn, from HRS, found a sweet little companion for Stuart and on March 14, we went to a bunny date. Everything went well and Genivieve, now Jenny, came home with us. Three days later she moved in permanently with Stuart. Jenny is far more active than Stuart. She taught him to run and to play and to be a bunny. He follows happily her lead. While Stuart is more of a home buddy, or should I say cage buddy, she will run around during play time and stop by to make sure he is all right. They have bonded so well.

Paige

Adoption date: 3/13/2007

Paige seems to be doing great! She started out just exploring around her cage area, but now she is being much more inquisitive and going into other rooms. She is eating well and my girls are smitten! They sit and read to her and she's out of the cage much of the time they are home. Thanks so much for taking such good care of her!
Rene'

Bernice

Adoption date: 3/1/2007

I'm happy to report that Bernice (who we're now calling Gretel) is settling in to our home quite nicely. She and the cat are bonding, although my cat is still a little unsure what to think about her. My dog has been allowed to view her from a distance, but because he's wearing an Elizabethan collar for a while (following ligament surgery), we're keeping him away from the bunny. We don't want that strange plastic dish on his head to alarm her.

Gretel's got a great personality and we love watching her throw her toys around. Thanks again for helping us adopt a rabbit. We love her.

-Jenny Montgomery

Daphne

Adoption date: 2/17/2007

Daphne is thriving in her forever home. She has made herself at home and has even been adopted by her new sisters. Despite her handicap she hasn’t slowed down yet. She loves to hop on the couch and ask for attention. In the mornings she likes to lay in front of the patio door in the sun with the cats. She is so active that you would never know she is missing a leg.

Daphne has become so comfortable with us that she has begun grooming us whenever we get down on her level. She loves giving kisses to us and the cats. She stands her ground and won’t let anyone push her around. She constantly surprises us with her antics.

Sarah

Adoption date: 2/3/2007

Here's a pic of Bugs and Sarah. Bugs seems to be much happier having Sarah around. She's a very sweet, patient bunny.

Thank you,
Jamie

Dobie

Adoption date: 1/18/2007

Thank you so much for letting us adopt Dobie! After coming home he was renamed Rufus Wainrabbit and he has taken over our apartment! He is so loved and has made our house a home and has completed our little family. After overcoming his initial reluctance John is besotted and Rufus absolutely loves his "dad". He is sitting on my chest as I type this, I swear he knows I am writing about him! We hate imagining his life before he was rescued by the HRS but are sure that he will get to spend the rest of it being totally spoiled. Thank you again,
Holly, John and Rufus

Ashley

Adoption date: 12/26/2006

We adopted Ashely December 26, 2006 at the Keystone Petco. My boys absolutely love having her. My oldest, Tony, (who is in the picture) will feed her in the morning and pet her for awhile. Later in the afternoon I will let her out into her large enclosure to run around. (He hasn't mastered that yet. She is unsure when someone else besides me tries to pick her up.) My youngest then will get into the enclosure with her. Somehow they have a way to communicate with each other and they know when the other is ready to play tag. Hunter will chase her a little bit and then she comes around a box and runs after him. Then she runs away. All I hear is uncontrollable laughter. When she is in the upper part of her cage and I am there doing something she will throw her red plastic triangle, or toilet paper roll, or stick to the lower part. I then "toss" it back to her, she grabs onto it and then tosses it back down. She is a wonderful bunny. We cant wait to adopt another one as a friend for her.

Her mommy and brothers,
Amy, Tony and Hunter
